Re: Luton coming up
I know we are supposed to hate Luton but I struggle to hate any football club really. It seems a waste of energy.
They all just want the best for their clubs and I am sure there are plenty that dislike West Ham and our “we won the World Cup” fans etc.

There were three ex hammers on the pitch in the final for Luton and a few others have been on their journey over the last couple of years. I’m interested to see how they and the club fair in the PL. It’s good to see small clubs punch up.

Football is a meritocracy and always should be. If small clubs with shitty little grounds like Luton or Bournemouth etc can gate crash the money party then as a working class routed club, West Ham should be all for it.

For every little team with a tiny stadium, small budget and journeyman lower league players punching up to the premierleague there is a Sunderland, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County etc that just weren’t good enough no matter how flash their ground and how much money they wasted.

The real worry for West Ham right now is how close we flirted with relation this season and how grim it would be if we got relegated next season and the likes of Forest, Luton, Burnley, Palace, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, Sheff Utd didn’t.

Re: Luton coming up
I'm with Hammer Oz on Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth and immediate relegation. Palace and Leicester and clubs for trainspotters. Bournemouth is the only club I never have enough PPs for to get an away ticket so for that reason I want them relegated (will be the same for Luton I suppose)

I went to Luton once to view it as a uni option. It being such a shithole put me off going there.

To put this into context I grew up in Barking.

Seen quite a few hijabs there getting in involved.

Fair play to them for supporting their local team unlike like vast majority in East London who appear to support Liverpool and Man Utd.

Aerial views of their victory parade on the news. What a fucking dump Luton is!

A bit like Green Street and Upton Park I suppose.

Think I’ve still got a programme somewhere in my mum and dads loft. Had Steve Foster on the front. Perm & Headband. League Cup Semi Final.

Re: Luton coming up
Gaffer, ok be honest on a wind up with some of it.
I must say though can't bear Luton, since being beaten at home in 80 and getting thrown out of the South bank to losing at their shit hole ground.
Always an entertaining day out though, remember going in 81 and someone running in a florist and nicking a plant, going outside and throwing it back through the window.
Still brings back a smile when I think of it

Re: Luton coming up
I hated Luton before, and hoped they were gone forever. Hopefully we don't have Wimbledon back soon too.
Would have been a good story if Coventry came back. They've been through their own difficulties, including having to leave their stadium.
Plus who can forget the 1987 cup final.

Re: Luton coming up
Fucks sake Hammer Oz, your talking just like the big 6 who wanted a European league all to themselves, promotion/ relegation is what it’s all about, even small clubs have to have a dream of success otherwise why bother.

I got in there when the away fan ban was in. I had a membership then to do it and they allowed it as I had a non London address at the time.

I have one now too as it was the only way I could get into our pre-season friendly this season. Hopefully will get me a ticket next season there.

Re: Luton coming up
In fairness their plastic pitch wasn’t as bad as QPR’s. I went up there in 86 which was quite nasty. A lot of aggro in the town centre. Loved it when Millwall wrecked it.

That semi final Dicks got raped.

Iron Duke 2:59 Sun May 28
Re: Luton coming up
When you think about it, there was nothing irrational about the hatred of Luton. There were multiple factors. For example:

1. The plastic pitch
2. Membership cards
3. Banning away fans
4. The League Cup Semi Final
5. The FA Cup Quarter Final
6. Mick Harford turning us down because Billy Bonds was still our best player at 40

Somehow, I can't stand the wannabe London clubs, them and Watford.

"London Luton Airport" is so badly named it's a con, And having a London Underground station doesn't make Watford London either

Re: Luton coming up
They’ve got some big physical looking players. At least three(?) ex West Ham as well, but unless they can spend millions and millions on new players as they do look (based on the few games I’ve watched) somewhat below the quality required to compete. I can’t see anything other than a 20th placed finish, but you never know…

But if nothing else the financial reward of getting there will be tremendously helpful for them.
